Villa De Vida

Poway, California

Villa de Vida is a California-based, non-profit corporation committed to enabling adults with special needs to live as independently as possible by building residential communities with support programs that meet the needs of each resident. VDV was founded in response to the growing demand for permanent housing for adult children with developmental disabilities of which the majority of them are under the care of aging parents.

Poway, California will be the location of their first housing development. Poway, known as the City in the Country, is an ideal place for these residents.  This small town provides a safe and supportive environment for persons with special needs.  Shopping, restaurants, parks, public transit and employment opportunities are all within walking distance.

Villa de Vida is designed in a Santa Barbara style of architecture.  This form of architecture was intentionally chosen by the Developer to convey asense of pride and beauty to both residents and community members. The development consists of 51 one-bedroom apartments, 3 two-bedroom apartments (including one management unit). All units are designed to Universal Design Principals and provide accessibility to all. Large community spaces will include a living room, commercial kitchen and common dining room, multi-purpose rooms, several lounges, resident services stations, management offices, exercise room and laundry rooms.

The site offers quiet outdoor courtyards and plaza with several courts that overlook Poway Creek.  Green features to include: water efficient fixtures, native landscaping, efficient insulation and windows, green building certification.  The design, through its scale, aesthetics and functions, will complement the surrounding neighborhood and a welcomed addition to the City of Poway.
