Poway, California

San Diego Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit corporation that focuses on creating homes for ownership by low-income families in need, offering a hand up, not a handout.  Habitat has targeted the families of disabled military veterans for the Twin Peaks Townhome development.  Veteran families will be given an opportunity to own a townhome through a low interest mortgage.  Habitat partner families qualify for our program by showing a demonstrated need for improved housing, a willingness to partner with Habitat by committing to 250-500 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build their own homes, and the ability to repay the mortgage.

Twin Peaks is intended as a village within the larger Poway community.  Although homes are attached, they are designed as single family homes with individual front entries, rear yards, two-car garages and two-story living spaces.  The homes are clustered around a large central park with a playground, BBQ’s and areas for passive recreation.  Additional open parking stalls are added to response to the community’s concern regarding adequate on-site parking.  The result is a generous 3.7 parking spaces per unit ratio.  Twin Peaks architectural design complements the surrounding residential neighborhoods and provides home ownership for very deserving families.
